On the 25th anniversary of the most improbable comeback in baseball history, Mickey Duzyj and No Mas present “Fall Classic 1986: The New York Mess.” Focusing on 1986 as the seminal year of glory and hubris, Duzyj explores three outsize characters whose legends loom large in the No Mas pantheon: Lenny Dykstra, Dwight Gooden, and Darryl Strawberry.

Ask E.T.: Christie's auction of ET rare books: what's going on

Holy shit. I don’t know how many of you know Edward Tufte. But I guarantee every single one of you would appreciate some or all of his work (he’s a statistician, museum proprietor, art scholar, and what some would call the father of modern information visualization, aka that guy who all these wackadoo infoviz hipsters are trying to be).

And even if you somehow don’t appreciate his work, you’d all appreciate what’s going on here:

HE IS SELLING HIS RARE BOOKS including some by Galileo, Picasso, Newton (Isaac), Minard, Durer, and many more. He says that they’re no longer working books for him, and would like them to go into the hands of others so that he can continue doing other work in the space his library formerly occupied.

Also…

HE IS GIVING 4 FREE LECTURES on how the books went into his research and writing, and I’m going to one of them. The link gives the dates. If you’re interested in going with me, get in touch.

David Lynch had an art show
“Oh … I Have a New Shirt,” a big, mostly beige piece that packs a punch, depicts a man with extraordinarily long arms grasping a folded shirt in a cardboard box, as if he’s showing off a gift. But in the lower left corner of the painting, a woman lies in a pool of blood. The top half of her body is out of the picture, but what’s there is not a pretty sight. She’s still wearing black spike heels, but her baby blue skirt is hiked up, exposing a bare rump. A hand-lettered sentence above the corpse informs viewers: “my girlfriend died last night.”

Life and Art, Afloat on a Barge in New York Harbor - NYTimes.com

Have any of you been here yet? Seems like an interesting project. I’m living on a farm right now, learning and experiencing what it takes to sustain yourself (and others) off the land. I’m not living 100% sustinence (far from it), but it’s very fulfilling and enjoyable to learn these things. Adding art to it and making it float seems like a neat idea (not moving onboard anytime soon :-))
