The Motel Life

the singer of Richmond Fontaine (yeah, i thought it was just one guy also) is also a novelist, and here is a review of his first book, The Motel Life, which i thought looked pretty interesting.

Used copies are available at barnes and noble for as low as $1.11

You ever read Don Quixote? He thought there were windmills; they weren’t really there.

Mr B’s Delightful Reading Spa Treatment

Mr B’s is a bookstore in Bath (old Roman town about 40 minutes west of London by train). They offer a fantastic-sounding service, the title of which is also (not coincidentally) the title of this tumblr post.

Scroll down to just below the picture of a lady reading in a bubble bath while sipping wine (not that it’s my particular fantasy, but it seems like some sort of über-fantasy that fulfills multiple fantasies at once. feel free to comment on this hypothesis) to find out what it includes. Actually, fuck that, I’ll post it here so you can see how crazy cool this sounds.

Includes:
  • Coffee/tea & cake
  • 45 minutes book-chat with Mr B discussing your likes and dislikes, being shown the best of what’s new & special gems to suit your tastes
  • 30 minutes reserved in our super-comfy chair in the Bibliotherapy Room
  • & time in our sumptuous Reading Booth

    plus
  • £40 of books that you choose during your spa treatment

    plus
  • A “reading treats” doggy bag (Vlashka’s idea) including:
  • A complimentary Jazz Legends CD ( perfect to read by)
  • 2 free tickets to a Mr B’s literary event of your choice
  • Yummy organic hot chocolate powder to snuggle up with
  • A “Mr B’s Rewrites the Classics” Mug to drink your hot chocolate from
  • A Vlashka bookmark to mark your place while you’re stirring your hot chocolate

The above costs £55. There’s also a £100 version which offers more time and other amenities, but along the same absurd lines. This would make a great gift.

Do any American bookstores offer a similar experience?

Me Talk Pretty One Day

I decided to read David Sedaris’ book about learning French while in Italy, and was originally nervous that the only story among the first part that made me lol laugh out loud was about poop. My fears were calmed, though, when I reached the second half, about Sedaris’s Sedaris’ adventures learning French, and tears came to my eyes I laughed so hard, especially while reading Jesus Shaves

Recommend a book vol. 2

I just finished my last book (highly recommended), and I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions.
